Verbal communication is an integral skill for all nurses. Throughout most of this module we have focused on written communication, but we must also consider the role of verbal communication for nurses.
In this Discussion, you will have the opportunity to practice your verbal skills by conducting an interview of a nurse and reflecting on what you learned about your verbal communication skills.
To prepare:
Select a nurse to interview. You may select a nurse with whom you work, a nurse in the program, a family member that is a nurse, etc.
Review the guidance provided for interview questions.
Interview your selected interviewee and record the responses in writing. (You will not be creating an audio or visual recording of the interview.) This interview may be conducted in any communication mode that works best for you and the interviewee.
Reflect on what you learned and how you felt about the interview.
Post
How did you feel about the interview?
How did the interviewee feel during the interview? How do you know?
What verbal and nonverbal communication occurred during the interview?
What communication skills/techniques did you employ and why?
