Option #5: World War I
As noted in this module, propaganda was an important tool by the different powers involved in World War I, including the United States. Admittedly, there are other World War I movies I wish I could have assigned. However, many of these other movies were not properly preserved and no longer exist. For example, I wish there were still copies of a film called To Hell with the Kaiser. In this film, the German Kaiser made a deal with the devil to conquer the world. However, upon his defeat, the Kaiser committed suicide and immediately went to hell. This film, like most other WWI propaganda films simply do not exist anymore. We know what they were about because we have descriptions from the time period summarizing the plot. Sometimes we have still photos from the movies but that is the extent of what remains.

What does the Mary Pickford character do to support the war? How does the movie portray the other characters in the film? Were there parts of the movie that confused you?
