This film looks at the role that basket weaving has played in the Navajo self schema, as well as the relationship of globalization to the secularization of basketry.
Q: For the Navajo, baskets and/or basket weaving is not only a large aspect of their economic subsistence but also how they define themselves. Through the weaving process and the enculturation of their beliefs and/or practices they gain a sense of cultural solidarity.
