Due 6/18
***Start by reviewing the Educational Philosophy Inventory completed for discussion “My Philosophy Activity 1#” in our EDU 220 course early in the semester.
Here are things to consider in your paper:
Introduction
This first section should include mention of:
Why teaching
Your high-level goals for all students/adults based on one or two educational theories (See Chapters 3 & 4). Outline the components of the paper and key components for the body of the paper ( for example, Components addressed in the statement highlight the purpose of school, nature of the learner, learning environment, teaching strategies, curriculum, and the role of teacher etc.)
Body
As you go into more detail about your experience and teaching, training or coaching practice, it’s a good idea to give examples that support your philosophy. If you choose to cite any educational researchers or studies, be sure you credit your sources. Review Chapters 3 and 4 for the major components of each theory (see summary charts for a quick view). You may want to touch upon:
What is the purpose of education?
What do you believe should be taught?
How do you think the curriculum should be taught/ and what teaching strategies?
What is your role as the teacher/trainer?
What is the role of the student/learner?
What you consider the ideal classroom environment
Your personal approach to classroom management ( learning environment)
How you facilitate or hope to facilitate learning for students of differing abilities- Diversity Statement
*Weave any components from theories to support your statement.
Conclusion
A good teacher is never done growing and learning. Wrap up your philosophy statement by describing your objectives, which should include student-oriented academic goals, future professional development goals, and the ideal outcomes of your teaching/training career. Your conclusion could include:
What you consider to be the purpose of education (taken from theory) — is it:
content mastery
discovery and knowledge generation
critical thinking
problem-solving
individual fulfillment
self-directed learning
teamwork
experiential learning
engaged citizenship
…or something else?
The goals you’ve already achieved as a practicum student, educator, or coach, as well as those in progress.
What will make you unique as an educator?
**Final step: Review the Assignment Rubric in Canvas before you submit the assignment to evaluate your efforts.
