This means you will tell me, briefly, what the article is about and what the author is saying. Then you will tell me your thoughts about the article and subject matter in general. Do you agree or disagree with your chosen article? Why or why not? Do you have personal experience or insight with the subject matter discussed in your chosen article?
You must follow these directions exactly or points will be deducted from your essay.
Before submitting your essay it is important that you check your essay against these requirements. Write a 500 word (minimum) essay which adheres to the following:
Names the author’s full name in the introduction and uses his/her last name thereafter.
Names the title of the source article/essay (in quotation marks) in the introduction.
Explains to the reader what the author is saying. Concentrates on the main points. Gives a fair representation of the author’s ideas.
Uses the appropriate elements of an introduction including a clear thesis statement which ties the article’s author into the main idea.
Uses at least three body paragraphs.
Begins each paragraph with a topic sentence. Topie sentences are not cited.
Cites the source at least once in each body paragraph and the references are commented upon in your text. Does not merely string quotes and/or paraphrases together to make a paragraph.
Does not cite in the introduction or conclusion.
Uses at least two quotes and two paraphrases for four total citations minimum.
Adheres to MLA format for Work Cited page and in-text citations.
May use your own relevant experience as long as the essay is not about you but about what the author is saying.
May use first person and/or third person point of view. Do not use 2″* person (“you”).
Do not use contractions (don’t for do not, for example) unless they appear in a direct
quote.
Uses correct grammar, mechanics and spelling.
Word count does not include separated quotes or Work Cited entry.
