You are required to write a three paragraph Reflection Essay in which
you will summarize the central thesis of Sontag’s essay and formulate
in your own words the main argument. In other words, identify the
purpose of the reading and explain whether you agree or disagree with
the author.
Reflection Essay Guidelines:
A Reflection essay or paper is not a research assignment. In fact,
it is much less complicated than that. You will not use footnotes. When
quoting or citing from the essay, all you need do is simply state the
author and page numbers in parenthesis, ex. (Sontag, 22). You should
not refer to other outside sources for this assignment since this is a
critical reading essay, not a research assignment. Your essay should be
based primarily on evidence drawn from a close, careful reading of
Sontag’s essay.
Reflection essays will be evaluated based on careful following of
directions, assessment of objectives achieved, and correct spelling,
grammar, and punctuation.
Please feel free to write more than three paragraphs if you so desire. Assignment Length: Three paragraphs (each paragraph must consist of 5 or 6 substantive sentences.
