Consider the sample classroom demographics as you work on your lesson plan:
Grade Level: 3rd Grade
There are 16 girls and 11 boys in your classroom.
Nine students receive free and reduced lunch.
Thirteen students are white, 8 students are African-American, 5 students are Hispanic/Latino and 1 student is Asian.
Six students are above grade level in reading and writing,
15 are on grade level and 6 are below grade level.
The Asian student has been in the United States for 8 months and he receives ESL support.
One student has autism, he needs support with transitions and in social situations.
One student has dyslexia, she receives extended time to complete assignments and has speech to text software on her computer.
One student excels in reading and writing, she often completes her assignments early and she enjoys activities that involve critical thinking skills, such as debates.
The classroom has an even mixture of visual, kinesthetic and auditory learners.
Design a learning experience for your students (see above for your sample classroom demographics) that addresses the standard thats selected. Keep in mind particularly planning for the diverse learning needs of your students, the importance of differentiation, and the multiple forms of assessment.
