When we read, we need to find the author’s purpose. What did he want the reader to take away from the text? Why did he write it? What is his overall message/big idea/concept/etc.?
Likewise, when we write, we need to have a purpose. What do we want our reader to take away from our writing? What is our overall message/big idea/concept/etc.?
Activity:
After reading “Purpose” from the Owl Purdue website, provide two purposes for writing giving an example of each.
For example:

Based on the reading about “Purpose” on the Owl Purdue website, I realized that “urge” is a purpose for writing.  I know if I go back to school in the fall, I will need to “urge” all of those around me to consistently wear a mask so we are safe.
