Primary Source Reflection
Engage in a conversation that include your own reflection of a primary source that demonstrates how policy impacted Mexican American communities. You will read excerpts from  the 1850 Act for the Government and Protection of Indians, in California – since they are      direct excerpts from the act, they are considered primary sources. As you read through      these excerpts think about the power dynamic within the region – meaning, who has political, economic, and social power after the Mexican American War in the region? Think         about U.S. motives during the era as well, which would have impacted the enforcement of these policies. This act references “Indians” which would have included Natives (who were also oppressed under the Spanish/Mexican government), and Mexicans.
Directions:
Read the primary source, take note of important information that is helpful to understanding the time period. Then reply to this post by including your analysis of the document. As  you do, keep in mind that the intent is to engage in a conversation to discuss how territorial changes (shift from Mexican to United States territory) impacted Natives and Mexicans   within the region.
