The goal of the study: Children are often exposed to various messages that impact their development. During the preschool years, when children learn about gender-related characteristics, they may be particularly susceptible to such messages about gender. One way children encounter messages about gender is through storybooks.Technological advances have given parents access to free online storybooks that can help reduce inequities in children’s reading abilities. Your task is to conduct a content analysis using online storybooks designed for preschool-aged children. You and your group will examine whether gender of characters is related to content in these books (you will choose the content on which to focus).
Hypotheses:
1: Female characters will express more positive emotions compared to male characters.
2: Male characters will be depicted outside more frequently than female characters.
Research Questions:
1. Are books with boy characters more indoors or outdoors?
