Personal Reflection & Research Paper:
To help facilitate the self-of-the-therapists growth and awareness, write a paper on a topic that represents a stretch goal for yourself. (A topic you are most uncomfortable with or a topic in which you have the most preconceived judgements). This paper requires both research and personal insight. 6-7 pages in length. [25% of grade]:
1) Introduce your topic: What childhood and/or adolescent disorder, problematic family dynamic, special issues within a family, multiculturalism or issues of diversity are you most uncomfortable with or have preconceived judgments about? (Use alcohol abuse – screenshots of this disorder’s definition attached)
2) Include your original attitude (thoughts/beliefs/feelings) on the topic. Include the rationale as to why you chose the topic.
3) Engage and cite at least 3 articles providing research to understand the diagnosis, presenting problems, and its origin.
4) Share what therapy modality and interventions are most recommended with such a case, and why. (CBT – see screenshots and do your own research) Would you use these same modalities and interventions? (Yes)
5) Write about (your understanding) God’s attitude (thoughts/beliefs/feelings) on the topic and prospective clients. Share Bible verses, research and/or personal processing to support this notion.
6) How does being a professional therapist and a follower of Jesus impact your view, modality and treatment of the topic you were most uncomfortable with, or the topic you had preconceived judgements about?
7) Conclude with your current attitude (thoughts/beliefs/feelings) on this topic and prospective clients after writing this paper and taking this class?
