The essay will be graded on Content (60%, Thesis statement 10%), Essay Structure (15%), Grammar (10%), and Formatting (5%). AI is strictly prohibited. Use only the assigned readings from this course. No outside sources allowed.

Which do you believe to be the most important way to understand the history of the Early Republic? Why is that so, given the other options?

Stronger essays will provide a clear thesis statement answering why their choice matters, paragraph organization, incorporate historical context, relevant key terms, names, dates, and evidence from the relevant primary source readings rather than the textbook.  
Stronger essays will also briefly address why their choice is better than the other two choices.
Avoid using Shelton’s introduction and commentaries as evidence; analyze the sources.
