Part 2: Completion of the Child Development Checklist
Arrange to meet with your child study subject multiple times when you will work through the child development checklist (click here for the child development checklist Download click here for the child development checklist) with the goal of collecting assessment data in each development domain. Work through the provided child development checklist- you will need to observe the child at play, preferably with other children. Be sure to complete at least 75% of the checklist- you may not observe every items on the list. You can also ask the parent for input on items that are not observed.
Look ahead at the assessment tasks before each assessment visit to make sure you have the materials (if any) needed for the child to attempt the tasks.
Make the assessment times fun…get to know the child, be friendly and well-prepared. Make sure they are not taken out of activities they would rather be doing for the screening. Read the child’s cues for stop times. If they are disengaging or seem restless, either move to a different domain or stop for the day.
