Most of us have our favorite genres of music – rock, rap, Classical, country, etc. The intent of this scavenger hunt is to introduce you to a much larger spectrum of music through interaction with music ranging in date from the 10th century to the 1990s.

Part 1 (64 points possible):
Search Youtube or the internet in general for each historical type or genre of music listed below. Pick your favorite example for each of the 16 categories and share links to each song. You may wish to share all of your songs combined into a Youtube public playlist. If a date range is included, then your song choice should be something originally created during that time period. Please label each of your song selections clearly to indicate which of the 16 categories it is an example of.
Links should be to a single song for each category. I will not accept existing playlists or “Two hours of Blues music” as your selection for a category.
The best way to approach finding your songs is to use search terms like “Renaissance composers” or “Disco songs” in Youtube.

Pick two categories from the list above. In 200-300 words, compare and contrast the two genres of music. Are different instruments typically used in the two categories? Are the formal and technical qualities similar or different? How are the two genres performed?
