Highcross Motorbikes Limited is a niche but successful motorcycle manufacturer in Leicester. As part of an
ambitious growth strategy the Board of Directors have decided that now is a good time to review their HRM
practices. They believe some may be outdated and in need of a revamp, especially in the area of the recruitment,
selection and retention of talented employees at managerial level. Traditionally and until recently recruitment and
selection procedures for management positions involved advertising on job search websites and then inviting
candidates for an interview. However, they are concerned about the effectiveness of this approach as retention has
been an issue, specifically newly-recruited talented managers deciding to continue their careers elsewhere, even
though Highcross Motorbikes pays salaries at the market rate.
The Board are also aware that their ambitious growth strategy may be unsettling for their people. They are keen to
explore how employees might be enabled to express their views, opinions and concerns to management and
perhaps to contribute to decision-making in the organisation.
As a point of information, there is no trade union presence at Highcross Motorbikes.
