Essay 2 Prompt: Answer the following questions in one cohesive essay with an introduction, conclusion, in-text citations, and references page/works cited.
Looking at the piece by Yanow, why is ‘local’ knowledge important and how can it be used by anthropologists in the study of social policies? Be as specific as possible.
Adding the discussion by Titmuss, what does social policy tell us about the values of a society? Look at a real-world example (requires outside sources- do not use Wikipedia).
How can contradictions between local and state (or national) level policies provide insight into the different values in parts of society, particularly with immigration and citizenship? Give a specific example to tie the readings into a real-world example. Don’t forget to cite your sources.
You must cite Yanow, Titmuss, and at least 2 other readings from weeks 3-5. You also will end up needing at least 1 outside source. Remember the rules for citing websites. You can cite me, but it does not count towards your total readings nor outside sources to be cited.
While you can use quotes. Quotes do not stand alone as your answer nor your examples. Your essay can be no more than a total of 10% quoted material and every quote must be clearly explained and connected. Your best bet is to summarize or paraphrase and VERY sparingly use quotes.
