ENGL 202
Assignment Sheet Unit 2: Annotated Bibliography
This paper will draw on the readings and research you’ve done both in and outside of class as well as
class discussions and shorter writings from this unit. I am looking for evidence that you have been able to synthesize and think critically about the concepts and ideas contained in this unit. Remember to keep a clear sense of your genre and purpose in mind when thinking about this assignment.
The Task:
For this assignment you are faced with several tasks. 1) Find and cite a minimum of 6 sources that relate to your chosen literacy focus at least 2 of these sources must be scholarly. 2) Include a concise, but representative (½ page to a page), summary of each source. 3) Synthesize, in approximately 500-1000 words, these sources; explain how these sources either Agree, Disagree, or Complicate each other and how they work with your Unit 1 Narrative. Guiding Questions:
These are questions to get you thinking. You do not have to answer these specifically in your paper although a good paper will most likely touch on some of these.
What kind of source is this (journal, book, webpage, podcast, etc.)?
Do I have all the appropriate citation information for this source?
What is the argument/claim being made in this source?
Is that argument/claim proven and with what evidence/support?
Does this source help me understand my discourse community or other sources?
How does this source mesh with my other research?
What new questions do I have after reading this source?
Does this source cite or reference other people or sources that I might find useful?
Audience:
Our reader always influences how we write. Therefore, it is important to know who our reader is. For this paper you are writing to your instructor. I am invested in your success in this course, and I want to ensure that you are conducting useful research for the final paper and that you have some conception of how your research works together.
