Employee Privacy Rights
Our company is considering a new cell phone plan. Unfortunately, we can no longer afford to pay for the entirety of employee cell phone usage so we are adjusting our contribution to 25%.  we reviewed past employee cell phone records, we found that only around a quarter of calls were business-related, so this seems fair. Because we are still paying for a portion of the phone, we can access all personal records on the employee’s cell phone and view this information at any point. Some employees are questioning the ethicality of this, saying it goes against their privacy rights. If an employer pays for any portion of an employee’s phone plan, should the employer have access to all phone records, including private text messages and voice conversations?
