Basics:
1,300 Words Minimum
MLA FORMAT
3rd Person Voice
Write a well-organized and focused ARGUMENT ESSAY that attempts to persuade readers to adopt your position, as expressed in your UNIQUE thesis statement. Your essay must be in response to one of the four prompts below, and it must incorporate a nice variety of literature you select that is apropos to the focus of the selected prompt category/theme selected.
A Works Cited page is not necessary, since all of the selections must come from our course e-book, and I know where they were derived but be sure to have correct MLA-formatted parenthetical citations after your quotes from the various works of literature you use. For example, “if this were a quote from the literature it would be a short, in-text quote followed by a parenthetical citation with author’s name in parenthesis” (Emerson).
Prompt Options:
A) Defending The Earliest Colonists: in choosing this prompt, you are electing to write a unique and persuasive argument that defends, in some way and/or with some particular focus, the first European settlers of America against what are often highly generalized and broad-brushed attacks on an entire group of people who were quite diverse. While they weren’t perfect people by any stretch, this prompt category contends that they were all likewise not as treacherous and horrible as many (revisionist) historians or literary scholars would have us believe either. Use their own literature to defend them. (relies on works from Parts 1 and 2)
