Assessment Details and Instructions
In this unit, students are required to complete all the preparatory tasks required to conduct a small research project of their choice either individually or as part of a group of up to three students. Undertaking the literature review is one of the first steps in the research process and will help you to become familiar with a chosen topic area.
Assessment 1 Criteria
1. Demonstrates capacity to systematically search for sufficient scholarly articles for a research project on a well-defined topic (benchmark is 15-20 articles-your search procedure needs to be explicit so that anyone can repeat the same and produce the 15-
20 articles)
2. Demonstrates an understanding of methodological conventions of a literature review for research including the form of literature review undertaken and style conventions for a literature review
3. Demonstrates the capacity to synthesize, discuss and critically appraise (where appropriate) the reviewed literature.
4. Provides evidence of critical thinking about how the information presented relates to your own research topic including research methodologies, methods, findings and identifies a gap in the literature for own investigation
5. Demonstrates correct use of APA (7th edition) referencing style and shows capacity to write in an appropriate scholarly style, with attention to grammar, punctuation and spelling
