Analyze the arguments for the use of pathos.
Determine how the arguments appeal to an audience.
What emotions are evoked and how?
How does the author use pathos to win over readers who might not agree with the writer’s stance on the issue? How is pathos used to sustain the argument?
Does satire or humor play a role in the argument?
What difference would it have made if the argument had included more facts or had been made more forcefully or dramatically?
Evaluate the use of emotional appeal overall.
Write:
Select one article.  Write a cohesive paragraph or two that introduces the author and article and explains your analysis.  Include specifics from the argument to support your findings. Your analysis should be mostly your own words, but you may quote briefly and judiciously.  Use paraphrase when possible. Use vocabulary from the chapter to show your understanding of the concepts.  Excessive grammar and punctuation errors could result in a failing grade on the assignment.
Documentation
Use signal phrases to introduce information you’ve taken from the article, whether you summarize, quote, or paraphrase it.  Include a MLA Style Works Cited for the article.
