Brainstorm a list of public health issues that affect populations around you (e.g., your city, family, workplace, neighborhood, etc.).
Explore 2 or 3 issues that interest you most. Conduct research into health policies related to these issues. What are the existing policies? How effective are they? Where is there a need for a new policy or meaningful change to an existing policy? Why is a new policy or change needed?
Choose an issue that you would like to focus on. Remember that your issue should be “comprehensive in nature” and “address a macro-level health problem,” according to the APHA guidelines.

Part 1: List the topics you brainstormed.
Part 2: Identify 2–3 issues that interest you most. Conduct research into health policies related to these issues. Be sure to answer the following questions on each issue. Part 3: Write a 150- to 175-word summary describing your brainstorming session.
